Long before mineral sunscreen became popular, before ingredient labels filled the backs of bottles, and before people started questioning what they were putting on their skin, my grandmother understood the importance of protecting it.
She grew up right here in Joshua Tree in the 1940s. Back then, life was different. Air conditioning was rare. Kids spent entire days outdoors. Families worked in the blazing desert sun, explored the rocks, hiked the washes, and built lives under one of the most beautiful—and unforgiving—skies in America.
By the 1950s she was raising children of her own, and protecting their skin wasn’t optional. It was simply part of taking care of your family.
She believed nature often provided the best answers, and over the years she shared her knowledge of gentle, skin-friendly ingredients that could help care for skin exposed to the harsh desert environment. Those lessons stayed with me.
Years later, after hearing more and more concerns about conventional sunscreens and wanting something I would genuinely use myself, I decided it was time to create something different.
